This is why I think id has been so great over the past decade - they made three Doom games but each one is so completely different yet all are amazing. Naturally, this means everyone will have a different favorite but I love seeing different visions of what Doom can be.

Honestly my favourite game of the year, and the optional gameplay adjustments they've added post-launch (like disabling the parry slow down) has been great to replay, not to mention the gorgeous path tracing update.

I'm in a strange place of thinking The Dark Ages may be my favorite, but that's because of stuff I loved (or reactions to things I didn't) in 2016 and Eternal. It's an EXCEPTIONALLY tight trio of game-design playgrounds.

It’s kinda weird that the exception of Doom II, every main Doom game is significantly different from the others.

Doom 2016 will always be the platonic ideal for me. Eternal and Dark Ages are both very good, but I feel like they're doing too much.

I liked it a lot more than Eternal with its parkour, but I loved all three. Really makes me wish they’d step back into Quake, with a proper solo game instead of an arena thing.

Totally agree, I love all 3 a lot. Dark ages definitely became my favourite. I even replayed it straight after finishing it.

I liked Doom Eternal. Was not a fan of the platforming. Dark Ages I just can’t get into the shield mechanic. Good games without a doubt. Doom 2016 is my favorite of the three.

3 for 3 with the Doom reboot, all have been absolute bangers. Dark Ages rips (and tears)

Absolutely. All told I think eternal was my favourite but I am so glad they went a different route with each entry. Excited to see what they do next!

My only annoyance with the new trilogy is on me. Sometimes I just find all the different systems in play to be a bit overwhelming.

I was saying this recently - id Software could've made a couple of variations of DOOM (2016) and people would've probably been fine with it, but instead they really tried to bring something new with Eternal and then again with The Dark Ages. Deserve so much credit for not taking the easy route.
