Are people leaving here to go to other sites? Or are they just getting tired of social media?
Are people leaving here to go to other sites? Or are they just getting tired of social media?
It seems like some of the magic has been lost. I have further reduced the number of people I follow if the only thing they do is scream about politics. We are all in this together and I understand the wish to vent but it gets old. I’ll keep posting little stuff that makes up my quiet days.🤷♂️
Tired of politics
I also haven't posted as much lately because my garden is a disaster and the current quilt is taking me forever to finish!
Oh, dear.
I have way too much on my plate at the moment... Trying to keep up!
💗
And I'm mostly here. I keep my FB page because it's where my book club and relatives are but I didn't spend much time there.
Same but I find myself over there more because not much going on here. But on FB its mostly ads. They even put sponsored ads attached to my friends posts!!! I hate fb.
Same. Family photos are over on FB.
Great question, The conversation here is very reflective. People are not nice to each other anymore seems a primary reason to leave. going elsewhere? Statistics do not show that. Blsky has transitioned from hello how are you, to a business channel with millions of pseudo accounts. The end
I can understand that. I also know every social media account has fake accounts. I, personally, have not seen meaness except political feeds. The vibe certainly changed when people came from Twitter.
I can't think of a better social media place to go. If I sense an unwarranted attitude, I block. I sense we're weary & resting. Self care.
🩵
Like most others, I am weary of the 'Wake up People' greetings and the reposting for the 100th time. Mostly, i am keeping my free time filled with necessary distractions to offset my need to be informed.
I think we are really tired. Right through our very souls.
Yes.
Honestly, for me it's simply reading the same memes, posts, anger, hysteria, horrible news. I'm not saying it's not warranted, but it has become beyond exhausting. I'm dividing my time between Bluesky and Substack now.
Taking many more mental health breaks watching birds and puppies. Only other social media I use is Reddit, my guilty pleasure is zillowgonewild. 😏
I have never been on reddit except a rare occasion I Google a question and it comes up. I should probably check it out
I'd avoided Reddit until last year, undoubtedly due to misconception about it being a 4chan like place. I was so wrong! It's fun and a really engaging community, centered entirely around different niche interests, hobbies, generations, careers, curiosities and... well, truly ANY conceivable topic.
I really do need to check it out.
Just to give you an idea of what it's like & how it looks, these are some of the diff. subreddits on my main page or feed RN. Some really informative, educational communities as well as fun, silly, & serious ones, all in one eclectic feed. Better for reading than posting, tho, imo.
Cool. Thanks. It isn't going to suck me in, though, is it? I am a very curious person and can see myself going down rabbit holes 😂
Er... On second thought, you'd better flee now. Joking aside, there's a bit of a learning curve re how to get the requisite karma points to meet posting reqm't thresholds, but for reading, it's great! Super fun archaeology, Art Deco, art groups. More imp, 2 subs helped me get control of my health
That is a plus. Oh, I use to spend hours on historian threads on Twitter. Especially during the pandemic w/comparisons to 1917 through 1930s. How the Spanish flu even changed architecture. So on. Seriously, it's an addiction.
I like it for knitting, gardening, and zillow gone wild.
I have no plan to leave, but I'm generally spending less time on here. I have muted a few people because there was too much political content. I want to stay informed, but not inundated. More pretty pictures to soothe the soul!
Social media can feel exhausting unless I get it curated just right. Protecting my nervous system is a big priority for me in these times.
The latter for me. I'm generally cutting my social media usage all around.
I would say the latter. I have a like/dislike relationship with social media, and I can see now sometimes a lot of the posts drive people away.
Not leaving unless it becomes a cesspool like Twitter. I enjoy the Post people and reading (rather than seeing) from respected sources. I’m on less frequently to preserve my mental health because every single day the evil people leading this country work to destroy the rule of law and decency.
I’ve curated my following list to make it less exhausting. A lot of the same, angry stuff with no action plan or sense of hope.
Same here
I use the Bluesky Tracker app and every day I lose followers (most of whom I didn't follow back) and most of whom have deleted their account. The other day there were over 40 unfollowers/deleted accounts. I think there is also fatigue and daily battle to find joy.
I have the tracker on my old phone. I should probably put it on this one, as well.
I have noticed quite a bit of mutual accounts that haven't posted in months, or post like once a month.
Yes, same here. But I have met a lot of new people here too that engage a lot - mostly through the #EastCoastKin, so there is a balance.
What does the hash tag East coast kin mean
I had the same question a while back. Seems it's to share visual arts or photography of all sorts with like-minded people. "ECK is a multi disciplinary arts collective based around camaraderie and the visual arts on BlueSky, anyone can join from anywhere in the world!"
Thanks.
Great minds!
It's a list you can ask to join (see @eastcoastkin-ac.bsky.social) or you can simply use the hashtag. There is also a feed for posts by those on the list. The camaraderie is very Post-like. Content is more weighted towards photography/arts and less on politics.
Thank you
May I ask an unrelated question? What is the EastCoastKin hashtag about? I haven’t posted anything to it, because I didn’t want to barge into something not meant for me.

Well, that’s encouraging! Thank you. 💜
I just asked the same thing lol
I left Facebook four years ago with almost 200,000 followers on my photography page. I have fewer than 800 here on Bluesky, but I enjoy interaction with the people here. I find that Bluesky allows me to curate my experience more than any other platform. And, there are far fewer assholes.
Spending less time on all social media. Also culling my following list!
Both. I've noticed that people I've enjoyed have closed up shop. Personally, I'm spending less time here, posting less and commenting less. Some days I have time, others not at all. I think this site has peaked. We'll see what happens from here.
I've cut back on reading and posting too. Not interested in seeing how many followers I can get and that seems to be important to many here.
I think that some people are just naturally busier in the summer (gardens, outdoor activities, etc.). Also, ongoing political issues are exhausting, and we all need a break from it every now and then. Just trying to preserve our sanity...
Definitely 💯
Yeah, I probably just need a life, lol.
😅. We're all in the same boat..
🙃
I don't really pay attention to follower counts but mine keeps growing slowly. One thing I need to do more is search out and follow new people and organizations. When I do I am always happy to find new interesting ones. For example, lots of great weather resources now for hurricane season.
True. I only noticed because I will see the same few accounts post repeatedly on a feed I have, and when I check why, its because so many don't post anymore.
I’m not tracking any follower counts or whatever you can track on here, so no clue. I have several feeds pinned and jump between them, trying to keep somehow on track. I think it’s the holiday season… it’s also nice weather outside, so I think in autumn winter people will be more online again, too.
Yeah, Im not really worried about follower count, just noticed that suddenly many of the peeps I follow are not posting.
For a long time following the election I got caught up in doomscrolling here to the detriment of posting & interacting w/my friends. Can’t take any more doomscrolling though so I’m back to posting & interacting w/my friends (who I appreciate so very much!) & let me tell you, it feels so much better!
I do hope over to the political feed or news feed to keep up because I don't watch the news anymore. But, if I don't want to see politics, I hang on my other feeds. I wonder if people maybe don't understand how to curate so they don't see the political stuff.
