There's no excuse for that in a country like this.
There's no excuse for that in a country like this.
That lines up with 1/10th believing The Earth is flat, and 7/50 being uncertain. 10% + 14% = 24%... and 25% = 1/4. So, yeah... Reading isn't their only problem.
We really should have minimum standards for voting and POTUS!
Nope. We're not going back to those days.
Right. It's a super easy way to re-normalize segregatation and keep a population of people from voting and will disproportionately affect minorities and the impoverished. Ugh.
Well we really shouldn’t have a convicted felon in office voted in by a racist cult.
I agree, of course. But that's a problem with the judicial system, not the voting system. He shouldn't have been allowed to run for president while actively being investigated for crimes, regardless of if they were committed during his term or not.
They've tried that, and it was used to keep educated black folks from voting. What we need is better education.
Don’t think we need to have convicted felons in office voted in by a racist cult either
At the very least, graduate from high school
These 1/4th have graduated from high school,or at least some of them have While dropout rates have been rising, schools and districts have lowered their standards that kids who can't read can still graduate It's only ever been a D average to graduate from most places, and getting a D is easier now
Jesus Christ, y'all, stop reinventing the poll tax and support basic adult education
This. My high school's funding was absolutely gutted and I was part of a generation of teens who absolutely suffered for it. We need blue to give so many fucks about getting better education to ALL parts of the country - including red states. It's how we'll help prevent this from happening again.
Absolutely. Ban charter schools & deeply regulate homeschooling. I saw home schooled kids out playing all day Friday.
Very of the opinion you need at least a basic teaching degree to homeschool or else it's considered a form of neglect. I've spoken to a number of adults who feel like they've been hampered in their daily life by being homeschooled by parents without the proper credentials to teach anything.
I have a PhD (not in ed) and an MA in education and I did not feel qualified to homeschool. Nothing in my education addressed how to teach how to read or do math. More than that, watching my kid hug teachers at graduation, I could never fulfill all the social-emotional needs on my own.
On of the best things for kids to have is an adult outside of their parents/primary caregivers with whom they have a positive relationship. Our current socio-economic structure makes that very difficult outside of the context of schools.
And, for real, my kid had some fantastic HS teachers at his *public school.*
I get there are extreme cases where a child's health (including mental health) or the social dynamics at a school make homeschooling the best of bad options. But the vast majority of homeschoolers I have known did it so they could isolate their children in the name of "protection."
One of the greatest benefits in my young life was good teachers. My kindergarten teacher broke through my fear of being left with other children and helped me make friends. My 4th grade teacher recognized I had symptoms of ADHD and depression and it's why I was able to get treatment. 1/2
Go for it
They should require high school transcripts, 2.5 avg or 3.0 in history/social studies to vote.
It's still 3 years to the election, get behind anybody fighting the fascist.
I didn’t realize they were that intelligent! I was thinking third grade level, but most of the third graders. I know are pretty smart and can read at ninth grade level.
You can lead MAGA to knowledge but you can't make them learn.
I’ve been saying for years that Americans have a low IQ especially the republicans
