I normally stick to electrical things but I am pulling apart a Natuzzi leather couch. Partner wanted to save the Italian leather for some craft/project work. Rather than cut it off, I’ve manually disassembled it.. I’ve learned quite a bit about how couches are constructed..

So. Many. Staples. I’ve painstakingly removed every staple with a flat head screwdriver. It is horrifically manual and requires muscle and attention to detail (not a lot of skill). This is why couches just go to the dump intact.. and end up in landfill. In NSW that $250 or so..

The invention of the nail gun has a bit to do with this. So easy to bang them in and so much more difficult to remove

Indeed. I’ve watched chippies do framing and it’s easy for them to go wild because minimal effort. As someone who denails timber to reuse it, it’s a huge pain to pull out a cluster of three nails when one would have done the job.. 🤦🏾

There are entire businesses that exist now just to pickup and dispose of couches.. www.1800gotjunk.com.au/au_en/locati...
