The US does not allow “brand new brake pads” to be manufactured with asbestos. So in this they are the same as Australia. They do allow them to be imported though (unlike Australia). 🤷🏾

After doing some more reading, it appears that brake pad manufacturers in the USA no longer use asbestos, because of bans in a handful of states. However they only stopped in the 2010s, which is quite shocking, and manufacturers *could* use asbestos in states with no ban...
Luckily they choose not to. But yeah, federally they really should make the effort to ban the manufacture and import of asbestos-containing brake pads.
Yes. They did that federally in the US in 2024. In the TSCA.
Oh, thanks! I hadn't heard about it and didn't find anything when searching today. At least the EPA is making the effort, but implementation of the ban has been paused for "reconsideration" due to legal challenges. Aye caramba!
