Is this the same on mobile?
And where do I find the about:config page? Honestly, I have no idea where to look for it.
ignore me:engaged brain, found it and did it thank you If something goes horribly wrong, I'll tell them I was following the advice of a random person on bluesky.
hey I did it and absolutely nothing has gone wroijhik82!im+++ATH0 NO CARRIER
Just name the tab group after the first tab. There you go, solution in constant time.
π
Thank you. This is really good to know. I've seen CPU spikes with certain add ons, too, both with Firefox and Opera.
Yeah because default Firefox is ass
π
Thanks.
Does anyone with the technical expertise know if this blight affects LibreWolf?
On my Debian 12, both FF and LW were already False.
Every month, Mozilla check tech trends and decides "what is the most awful thing we can do with our browsers?" And then implement it.
βShall we spend time implementing all the missing features that caniuse.com says we donβt support yet? Nah, letβs add more AIβ
Yeah like who the fuck even uses tab groups
...me? It was a feature I was wanting for a while, and was even considering switching to a worse browser just to get. I usually have dozens of tabs open, especially when trying to look something up, and opening an entire new window is INCREDIBLY inconvenient if I wanna have anything else open too(1)
Since I can't just click to reopen the window (I have to hover and select which one I want). Small inconveniences like that are INCREDIBLY stressful to me, so it essentially meant I could never successfully look anything up. Tab groups saved my sanity.
wait, you have to hover? Is this a mac thing or something?
Windows 11
Fucking hell Microsoft...
Alt-tab
You're joking, right? That's literally the second most stressful feature computers have (McAfee being first)
You know what I call a tab group? A window.
I do!! I do all the time. Itβs hugely practical.
Done -- tx for the heads-up
I am glad so many people are finding this useful! The notifications are a bit overwhelming at this point though, so I have muted the thread.
Waterfox, which is an open source fork of Firefox, has this disabled by default. Something to consider...
Iβve switched to LibreWolf, another fork of Ff. Because of Ffβs recent lessened privacy. I tried Opera but I couldnβt tolerate βSpeed Dialβ, which appears impossible to eradicate or even hide.
It seems as if, everywhere, new AI features are always enabled by default, and the end-user is never asked if they want them. I guess they're afraid that if people were asked, nobody would enable them and it would be too obvious that they money they spent on them was wasted.
π
π to disable GenAI firefox bullshit.
π
This explains so much!! Like I know I have too many tabs but not β17gb in use your computer is going to dieβ too many tabs
π
π
Why I never left Netscape navigator. I'm in it for the Long haul
π
My fox is already watered
hey @mozilla.org don't you know LLMs are literal crimes against humanity?!
Try Vivaldi! Tab groups + the greatest feature of all: a moral backbone.
Thankfully I've been using Waterfox and this seems to be off by default
π
π
It's so sad cause they probably could have made a super simple feature that helps you name tab groups which didn't use so much cpu/ram using other methods. They just wanted to make AI/LLM a thing.
π
And will we have to keep unchecking it for every update i.e. every two weeks?
π
Thank you!
Thanks for this. π
Thank you.
ty!
Nah. Imma just buy a bigger computer. AI is duh future!!
There's also browser.ml.enable
