Ugh, I don't know. I've never done this without 1) draping the pattern on the body, or 2) starting from an existing pattern and fitting it in muslin. Either way, it takes just making a mockup to sort it out.

I think I’m going to have to mix my patterning and draping and mockup. Chaos may yield great results. I don’t know. I’ve never worked without a pattern, it’s a big step forward in a dark room (lol)
Yeah, I just started in the last two years. I've been taking classes, so that's boosted my confidence, I think. I'm lazy, but mockups are the key, imo.
I think Donner and others often start at the very beginning from patterns from medieval finds and Patterns of fashion, though, that must help for sure! (I wanna make one too but I’m procrastinating years on everything sewing related so…)
In her videos on kirtles, she goes straight into patterning, without much of a look at historic dresses (except when discussing the lack of darts and the neckline). So here, no help at all for my problem 😅
Hmm!!!
But also yeah it’s a lot of toiles for sure imo You can do it! 🤞🏼💪🏼🧡
I’m sure this is how it’s going to go. lol I believe in you, too! (My procrastination has been years in the making, too. If you see what I mean. I’m a very good procrastinator)
