Wait who is “people”? I’ve never met a single person who actually likes what the generative ‘AI’ people are is selling.

I only came to this thread just now cause I saw some AI dweebs talking crap about Ed and I just needed to scroll his page for a sec to be reminded of normality.

I can tell you a lot of middle schoolers and high schoolers completely buy into it. They believe it is both accurate and smarter than them and use it accordingly.

My 13 and 15 year old boys are even more down on generative AI than I am. I admit there might be some uses, in very specific cases. They think it is 100% worthless.

This makes them smarter than the reporter I spoke to yesterday who could not find information I found in Google in minutes using the magic of quotation marks. They said they Google, didn't see anything, then asked ChatGPT and it knew nothing. Well, of course it didn't.

Oh god I really hope that’s a temporary thing. I don’t know how to deal with an entire generation of brain damaged people running things when I’m old.

Forgive me if the implication was intended, but that's what you've got now.

It’s possible to be a stupid asshole without being brain damaged. Most of the ruling class fall into that category.

Also the LLM brain damage will be far more profound and widespread than whatever you have in mind

Be fair, generative AI is smarter than many middle and high schoolers. The thing is, that sentence is an indictment of our education system much more so than it is an endorsement for AI.

It’s not smart as all, because it does not think. It strings words together in a way that closely resembles the sentences we form when we write.
