I really have become convinced that one of the problems with the political discourse on this site is that people just see rural people as an absolute synonym for Republican voters and they don't realize or won't admit they're doing it.

Bingo. Seen some real H.P. Lovecraft-ass othering of the non-urban out here. People scared to cross the suburbs, as if they aren't where the really real critical masses of Trump fans live. I'd be more scared in them than to either side of them.
