Just out of curiosity, what's your native language? I'm Italian!
Having a conscious grasp on a language rather than unconscious probably helps, but I think it's more the fact that English is the new Lingua Franca. I watch, read, and listen to more English than my first language when it comes to media/entertainment. I still talk in my first language when talking--
--to people offline, but that means I get the common vernacular version of my first language, and the edited media version of English, which is much more helpful for a writer. How I communicate online vs offline also differs, with almost no written offline communication, and almost exclusively--
--written English when online (such as now).
