how does one regain motivation to draw :(
how does one regain motivation to draw :(
Music and comfort shows tend to help me refresh ideas uvu
Whenever I'm feeling down and not in the mood, a good distraction is what usually helps the most. It can be fun, a book, a game, hanging out with friends. Or honestly, nothing makes me wish I was drawing more than doing some chores I've been putting off. Anything to get the mind wandering.
Learn something new and see if it shakes inspiration loose
If I am having imposters I draw something small and funny, like a small gremlin with a knife or a flower. If I just can't get started I take out my old highschool sketchbook. I don't know what is does but I want to draw after. Cringe inducing teenage art therapy, it burns away the cobwebs.
I'm asking myself this exactly
It's really hard. Sometimes taking a break can help. But sometimes forcing yourself to draw anyway can be a good step, but that doesn't always work.
I don't draw but I write and recently I found motivation in moments of peace, quiet and chosen boredom. Sitting in the garden without a phone and other devices. I was thinking that I'm in no danger of overstimulation but I was wrong. Maybe it's a little like that in your case too?
Draw a butt. A 5-line butt. And that little momentum gets you going
maybe try drawing just small things for yourself without any intention of posting it anywhere, to like, get rid of any pressure that might be there? or try experimenting with new art styles
When you find out pls tell me I want to know that, too
Try paint by Numbers and finger paint and less rigid forms of art! While being kind to yourself and taking care of your immediate needs before doing other stuff
I didn’t just comment for nothing, I saw you actually care and have a kind heart. Check my last post and you’ll understand. Honestly, we have zero energy left, swear to God, I just wanna rest, seriously.
I've been trying to get inspiration by consuming bunch of different kinds of media, but I can't tell if it's very effective or not sadly enough...
Reading this just after seeing the Return of the Yuri is really majestic
There is like a sexy watto from star wars thing if some president were to be gone. Or watching kiki's delivery service / Whisper of the heart then starting little to regain confidence and have fun
When all positive motivation techniques fail, there's always spite - find something so appalling, that you will feel like you have to express your feelings in some way. Create beautiful art as a form of big FU sign, even if only you see it as that.
Be kind to yourself, it might be your mind and body telling you that you need a break (or something else, I don't know your life)
Surprisingly reading. Seeing only words with no pictures makes my hands itch to draw
become obsessed with ur fox boy lich dnd character. well. thats what worked for me. actual advice is sometimes what u need is a break and trying something else out or trying something new with drawing? its hard bc theres no perfect for everyone solution :(
You could do a silly dance?
Draw Sonic or a Sonic character or a Sonic OC. Works for me every time
Lots of self indulgent dumb fanart ideas did it for me
Eat well! Sleep well! Enjoy your day! Look at girls kissing! You will prevail ✨
Reverse psychology
Small steps at a time! Doodles, cute stories, etc
Personally I Watch videos online going over the behind the scenes of animated productions and discussing the process. It's not only deeply interesting but also inspiring and makes you want to do something art related. That and read a comic or watch a show I enjoy or want to get into.
For me I'd just draw something completely opposite to what I was gonna draw originally. The downside to that however is now I can't remember what I was drawing before.
Too new to provide good advice. But I like to try to new things. Like drawing a vegetable romance or whatever thing that is both fun and easy to do.
I like to return to my roots. Things that inspired me were cartoons so I might spend time rummaging through old shows or comics. I guess, find something that brings you joy & see what happens. Your skills are impressive & represent your dedication to the craft so I'm sure you'll get through it. 🍀
Petrichor. Corvids playing. Photo safari in the city. New experiences. Basically things to fill the well. Even with further struggle, you've at least paid it forward for when you do break through.
Taking pauses, seeing other artists and changing your process to one that is comfy, uncompromised and even rough around the edges
I don’t know. Been struggling with this one for YEARS
Personally when I'm artblocked I just do studies, drawing hands usually. For lack of motivation, I usually just take a break for a little while and then try again every once in a while, maybe every week, to see how I feel. Looking at other great artists can also be very motivating.
Is it art burnout or like a general lack of motivation and enthusiasm for most things?
draw bad doodles in a sketchbook that you will never show someone :]
Like writing, the best way to do it is jut to write, even just small stuff, and keep going. You'll find your love again, and it'll motivate you to want to draw more. Rinse and repeat.

🫂 You'll get there I know it
Read some good stories.
I’m not sure it’s applicable, but enriching yourself with other media in my experience helps a lot, it recharges the themes and ideas you have as a creative and ofc adds to them, ie enriching them.
The way I deal with my own art motivation is I do something else. I’m not nearly as “productive” as I used to be but I know I still love to draw when the inspiration hits. So I just enjoy other parts of life until the motivation returns. And when it does, oh lord is it a bliss of hyperfocus
Call someone you like to chat with and have a pen and pad by our side, and talk about lots of cool things
Something I ask myself a lot too :(
What happens if you try to draw something with your off hand?
Let me know when you have the answer
i’m not an artist so idk if the same will apply but for me reading about or just searching stuff online in the same category of what i want to program helps me a ton
When I go through art burnout I step away from it and focus on consuming art. I watch movies, go to an art museum, look at art books, go for a hike, ride my bike, play video games. Then when I've recharged I'm ready to get back at it.
Can you identify what made you lose motivation in the first place?
If you figure it out, let me know 🫂
Step one: imagine your OCs kissing
Can confirm, this works. lol
YouTube quizzes that have things that are drawable or watch animated movies or series tend to help
🫂
From my experience, it kinda just comes back. One day, you have no motivation to do something, and then the next, something pops up in your head from doing something random (like playing a game, reading, browsing online, etc.). Not sure if it's entirely helpful for you, but I wish you luck!
Lmk when you find out
I typically watch things that inspire me, mostly animated stuff
Try a different style, its really fun to see what else you’re capable of, even its just a one off piece. You can still learn something new and feel rejuvenated to get back into the full swing of things.
Make messy drawings. Just like vibe with it. Don't try to think about anatomy or how things connect. Abstract your way through emotions. Usually that makes me think about what I like and then I focus on that.
I've heard that dark rituals and forbidden esoterica usually do the trick.
Look at lots of art. Like lots and lots and lots of art. Eventually, you'll find something popular that you fucking hate. Then it'll occur to you what the good version of that is and you'll want to do that.
Fight the enchanted goblin
Not drawing! I'm being serious; try other hobbies or activities that grab your interest. You'd be surprised at how effective this is at revitalizing your creative juices. For how long? Depends on how burned out you are. It's still a good idea to relax and give yourself a breather.
Motivation is a myth. You have to kinda just DO it If you wait for motivation then you will never do You just have to say enough is enough and just do it
This advice is more for art block than lost motivation but it works the same imo: draw something that you know you can draw really well with no effort. Something that’s burnt into your mental library. Something that takes no experimentation to draw well. It will convince you of your capabilities.
I heard that it is by silly drawing butts on peaches and other fruits. 😄
Take a break. Invest in your enjoyment and self-care. Draw for pleasure, never finish a sketch. Do studies. You got this! It's okay to take breaks. :)
You got to watch Kiki's delivery service
Also this
If you figure that out let me know.
Sacrifice a goat.
Imagine a new couple in your world
Sit in a little café with a little drink and do some still life from your surroundings
I get try to consume new media or look at artist alley set ups, personally. getting very unnormal about a piece of media makes my brain start working
IDK, but I love seeing your art and your characters! Whether lovingly rendered in microscopic detail, or in a quick cartoony sketch, Asi and Otti bring me joy and good vibes.
