This isn't just in the USA either, think about city leadership in like Barcelona trying to promise a good local economy, cheap housing, AND an end to those perfidious tourists (who bring all the money).

I suppose there are edge cases like Hawaii (although I don't know what else their economy would be based on otherwise) where overtourism does have bad effects, but that's rare.

It really should be a slam dunk. Tourists inject a ton of money into local economies while demanding nothing in the way of social services or medical care
