I'm anti-trump, but yes, Trump is winning the trade war. I can't stand the nonsense reporting on this. The effects of his deals won't be felt for a year or so from now, but there's no question the US will come out better off. Pretending like the EU didn't capitulate is just disingenuous.

Be specific: how will his deals make US economy better within a year?

Not even Trump is claiming it's a trillion in the next year, and it isn't the EU that would be investing www.politico.eu/article/eus-...

$600 billion in U.S. investments and $750 billion in U.S. energy. That's over a trillion and doesn't even take into account the NATO deal to up spending on defense to 5% of GDP for all member states (which ultimately ends up going, largely, to the US).

The investment clause you are referring to are actually investment intents by the private sector, and are not binding in any way. So on one side of the equation, Americans WILL pay the tarifs. One the other side EU MAY invest 1.4 trillions. WHAT A GREAT DEAL!!

Dude. I agree the figures are inflated. But you think EU businesses aren’t upping U.S. purchases because of tariffs? Or that the EU won’t smooth regulations or incentivize them to buy from the U.S.?

Not following your thoughts here. Can you elaborate on why EU businesses would want to increase their US purchases because of tariffs.?

Deals are not a zero-sum game. Lose/lose is an option

Yes. But I am saying this win/lose in favor of the US. At least in the immediate future. Maybe the EU will grow some balls and fight back, but they have shown no sign of a willingness to do that yet.

You're either not reading the articles or not understanding them

I have read and understood the article. The argument is not very complex. I am disagreeing with it. It's not fair to point to the immediate economic impact of these deals, when the whole point is the long-term impact. I hate Trump, but this article is superficial.

You are clearly not an economist. When you say the USA will come out of it better off, how and who do you mean. As a normal, everyday consumer that is an impossibility unless wage rises are commensurate with price inflation. On the other hand, if you are a billionaire you gain.

How? Increased EU imports from the US, reduced tariffs, and regulatory concessions that open up markets for US producers. That translates to higher export volumes, more competitive pricing for US goods in Europe, and more jobs in sectors tied to those exports.

Of course von der Leyen capitulated, we know that, but the EU member states control her and may well prevent it going beyond the European Commission. The 'treaty' has still to go through the Council of the European Union and European Parliament where it may well be kicked into the long grass.

Yes, there’s still a formal ratification process, but history shows that once a headline agreement is reached at the Commission level, rejection by the Council or Parliament is rare—especially when major economies inside the EU have a stake in seeing it through. Unfortunately, this will pass...
