Not arguing, just a note. Consider this: you have been spending more relative time with media than 10 years ago unless you were hiding somewhere. Which would make you now more knowledgeable and able to see more connections where previously you've missed them.
I am not saying you are wrong! But it is difficult to quantify this feeling because we learn more each year, and that is why things seem repeatable on their own, regardless.
You've also been creating! Does not matter if it was the same genre or something opposite. Now you've exposed your brain to both sides - artist and consumer. You've trained yourself to see these things even more!
