For income tax alone, Montreal is worse. But overall, assuming you are earning 75k CAD equivalent, Maine is worse because of healthcare costs.

You pay for healthcare through taxes there so maybe that’s part of why it seems bad.

Over here they have a lot of benefits if you are a parent as well (daycare can cost as little as 160-200 USD / month vs 1k USD / month in Maine). But day to day purchases are cheaper in Maine (15% in Montreal vs 5.5% in Maine).

We still get Canadians, but it’s definitely down from previous years. Maybe some are shopping.

I think at the end of the day, people might just be scared or inconvenienced enough to choose somewhere else to go. If you are ever visiting Montreal, hit me up!
