You pay for healthcare through taxes there so maybe that’s part of why it seems bad.
Over here they have a lot of benefits if you are a parent as well (daycare can cost as little as 160-200 USD / month vs 1k USD / month in Maine). But day to day purchases are cheaper in Maine (15% in Montreal vs 5.5% in Maine).
We still get Canadians, but it’s definitely down from previous years. Maybe some are shopping.
I think at the end of the day, people might just be scared or inconvenienced enough to choose somewhere else to go. If you are ever visiting Montreal, hit me up!
