Talk about burying the lede, Polymega Collection 013 - Sengoku Blade has a strange set of Psikyo and Jaleco games... And one of them is CHIMERA BEAST, the famously-unreleased Jaleco arcade shmup where you control an all-consuming EATER and destroy entire ecosystems! polymega.com/collections/...

Wild. I don't know what a polymega is and their website doesn't help solve the mystery but it is cool for chimera beast to be out there.

Yes, I don't know how they did on the licensing side of things but they did. For the hardware part it's really nothing special : an x86 Intel CPU, 2gigs of DDR4 and USB ports, Wi-Fi Ethernet. Was quite skeptical about it, but some people seem to like it No idea how they keep afloat tho....

The whole project is kinda weird and was supposed to be FPGA at first but then shifted to be x86 (and therefore relying on the quality of their software emulation, but hey maybe they licensed Ares IDK ???) Think I remember they paid some people to work on their Saturn emulation especially

The modular concept is a neat idea, but am afraid it's the kind if ideas that sounds nicer in theory than in practice And they shifted last year to doing an app, I don't know how that's working out for them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, a few questions: a) Does this mean Chimera Beast has a chance at getting an Arcade Archives release? Jaleco games are appearing on there again after all... b) What is a Polymega? Wrong answers only please.

Polymega is obvious by its name. Sega's polycule, but only outside of North America.

A: probably not as it was never released anywhere. The previous 'never released in Japan' games at least got small overseas releases. But that's semantics & it could be ported by anyone, same as DT7 & Distopia if someone wanted to finish that off B: For arcade games it's a £600 mamebox with 0 games

actually B is correct but I doubt the manufacturer would say it when they can sell unspecified roms (Bad Dudes ARC, NES / FC) - there's 2 arcade versions lads & they're not identical B: The reason Nintendo & Sony left the gaming market in 2030, bankrupt & defeated

Yeah, I imagine not being officially released anywhere puts an ACA release at a non-starter, but the Jaleco fan inside still wants to dream~ All your other answers seem correct for this thing tho :V

I'll message President Hamada & tell him that my uncle who worked at Jaleco (he's dead now so confirmation is impossible) officially released a sole copy of Chimera Beast in Scotland. I remember seeing it If that's not enough to get it ported then idk what is

Polymega sounds like more complicated Mega Blocks.

Ironically, the original name they announced with was "Retroblox", due to its modular nature.

Yeah, I managed to pre-order it super early on, back when it was at a much more reasonable price. It's really the main thing that prevents me from readily recommending the console, because otherwise it's been really damn good at what it offers & really enjoy using mine.
