GAMING THINGS WE THINK ARE COOL!! - In the RPG mode of Revengers of Vengeance (US) / Battle Fantasy (JP), your character's profile art will change as you play. Here's an example with Sara- at the start of the game, after losing some battles, and after levelling up a bit.

Thank you for writing this, that was a really interesting read! I like that this game sounds like it tackles the idea of disparate people not getting along at all and you trying to bring them together, really putting the work in across both the character interactions and battle parts

On a lighter note: said site tagged Melty Blood: Type Lumina as romance but not the Tsukihime remake which is very, very funny.
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social)
With those last reposts about Harukanaru. I'll always think about the time a certain website created a "better" version of the Switch eShop that, by default, filtered out anything 'romance' related because the people who made it figured it wasn't a 'real' genre.

"I'm never going to pla-" That's fine. Let me play them and tell you about them instead. Just at least try to understand that there are huge gaps in our collective gaming knowledge, and that it's a shame games like these are untranslated.
Kimimi🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ (@kimimithegameeatingshemonster.com) reposted
Again, if you're wondering why I should spend time covering Haruka and why you should bother reading about it: Because English-language awareness is no reliable measure of a game's importance or success. Because sexism is still so rife in gaming we shove entire genres to the side as being "not real"

While I was asleep, a lotta discussion about game history and games people are 'expected' to play happened, huh? I can relate- we had a NES but never got that many games for it, so I didn't play Castlevania, Contra (whoops, I mean Probotector) or Mega Man (whoops, I mean Roll-chan) until emulation

Not everyone, mind, the person voicing Panther was clearly having a whale of a time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_BF... I'm glad I got to experience this game with support from chat, but whoof, what a complete mess. A fascinating, tantalising mess!
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a shame 'cause there are parts that work, and the story is pretty daring (the General Pepper fight especially) but as well as the game being such a chore to play 80% of the time (the on-rails sections are excellent), the voice acting for Fox and Falco especially is real rough, not enough emotion
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
The visual / sound feedback on shooting things is also really weak (except for when you send enemies flying with the Landmaster, that works well) and all this combines to make the on-foot segments really not fun. I see what they were going for- an all-out war scenario- but it didn't work for me.
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
You can tell in the final product as the open-arena, multi-vehicle segments are clearly repurposed multiplayer stages, and that wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so bloody *huge* and empty for a single player! As pointed out by my chat, the lighting also makes it hard to spot places you need to go.

I don't normally do this, but I wanted to put out a few thoughts I had on Star Fox Assault, this is such a fascinating mess of a game. First and foremost, read this interview, it's very illuminating- they briefly considered making this a multiplayer-only game! shmuplations.com/starfoxassau...

Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
Auto fire is in this rerelease but completely optional and also disabled for high score mode. Computer opponents are usually fallible and have set scores for you to beat that are doable. Also they're not entirely based on rapid fire as timing and reflexes are an important part of many of the events.
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
You're right to say it!! (Thank you!) And yeah, I agree on the leaderboards for Mach Breakers, it would be nice to see everyone's event records :S
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
I didn't think Arcade Archives would be compared to Silksong, but the PS4 and Switch 1 versions are lower in price anyway. These higher-end games like the 3D / 32-bit ones are more expensive but games like Scrambled Egg and Chopper I from previous weeks are the same price as always on PS4 / Switch.

Additionally, I wanted to emphasise that there were no home ports ~at the time~ for this game, so this is the first time you're able to play it at home on a console. Apologies if this has caused any confusion.
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
I have a tendency to use the word 'port' a bit liberally perhaps, and while Arcade Archives releases (as is my understanding) are emulations, they're (most of the time) a bit more accurate- Kangaroo and Wonder Momo were games that had problems in MAME but their ACA counterparts fix things.
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
Dialogue with him in Shadow Generations suggests he really was having this adventure while everything else was happening, I choose to believe he survived everything because he's Big and no-one can stop a huge cat who just wants to fish and sleep~

It's really good! Imagine if Track & Field was done with superhumans, so the events get considerably more over-the-top, such as smashing through blocks of ice instead of jumping over hurdles and the like~
Gaming Hell (@sarahssowertty.bsky.social) reply parent
Would that be the usual 'claimed by Victor Entertainment' stuff or is there something more specific about this one? From my limited experience streaming Namco ACA games, it'll usually pop up that it belongs to them but it never mutes it and lets it through nowadays.
