According to the law, new maps are only required if the population has changed more than 10% from the last census. Population didn’t change that significantly after the last census so they kept the old maps. However they are using growth in the last 5 years to justify redrawing them now.

The problem is that those blue cities are chopped up into multiple districts. In '24, Austin swung 70% for Kamala Harris... but TX has diluted the liberal voters so much that 4 Congressional districts touch Austin. So a liberal city has 2 solid red House seats, 1 solid blue, and 1 purple.

Jasmine district can't be extinguished, I actually reside in representative Crockett district which is 75% black, so there's not enough redistricting to do there... however, there are other districts in TX that are rapidly growing with black & brown constituents, surely those are the target areas.

From 2010 to 2020, Austin was separated into 5 Congressional districts, 6 if you count Travis County (where Austin is located). "My" Congressman was Roger Williams. He's a car dealer who lived outside the district in Weatherford, 185 miles north. The district extended from here to Fort Worth.
