but there is a growing sense that he needs to win something this year, and getting it other the line is not quite there (I am a Liverpool fan)

As a Liverpool fan too, Arteta has the feel of a Houllier or Rafa: they’re brilliant up to a point but sections of the fanbase start agitating when consistently being close to trophies doesn’t lead to silver. Doesn’t help that so much football chat on social media’s designed to feed that impatience.

Yeah - I guess I never really thought that there was a yeah either 'ought' to have done better, but to me the black mark against Rafa was not understanding that Xabi Alonso was the best midfielder in the Premier League!

Me in that season when it looked like you might buy Gareth Barry and we might end up with Xabi Alonso:

Having Alonso with those owners was like being alone on the savannah late at night having a barbecue. Just a question of which lion gets the prize.

Certainly the likes of AFTV don’t help. I mean, three points off the top against league leaders who’ve been a touch fortunate in all three games is not a crisis. If they can do what Houllier or Rafa couldn’t and break down the physical, low block sides consistently they could easily be champions.
