I'm sort of coming to the "victorian 'home made' rustic sewing table" idea.... like it's "in the style of" nothing particular but with victorian legs but not 'finely' crafted...

apparently those are possibly "bobbin legs" which seems entirely apt for a sewing table

It's a style. It looks like the legs are made quite robustly. It's 3 parts fitted together. Mind if I pass the image on to my brother who might be able to get my dad to comment?

Absolutely yes - all input welcome. I am curious about it. I should have asked more at the time but I made the classic mistake of assuming I had more time It has a very robust feel to everything except that basket. For clarification the top opens by rotating half the lid sideways in either direction
