A few people did, in fact, raise their hands on that last one. And so: "I commend you on your bravery. There are a lot of people whose hands didn't go up for any of them." Then I went through what the appropriate null hypothesis was in that case, and why.

er, forgive my ignorance but there can be -multiple- null hypothesis? I thought that just means there's no real cause/effect relationship and it's just random patterns incorrectly looking significant?

I usually ask the “who isn’t sure” question to get that sense as well. Then I also reassure them that it’s an okay answer as well.
