Sure, but was the “awokening” originally institution-driven or did they merely adapt to it? I think the latter. And I believe given improving public opinion on trans people and DEI since the election, that institutions would eventually adapt again if Trumpist pressure and intimidation were absent

Ok, but there is a huge gulf between, "Under no circumstances will I vote to make Gavin Newsome the Dem nominee," and, "Under no circumstances will I vote for Gavin Newsome over JD Vance." The former is objectively reasonable. The latter is objectively pro-fash.

Exactly. Newsom sucks, but he is still infinitely better than any Republican. I think it's very unlikely that he would get the nomination in the first place, but to refuse to vote for him if he actually did would be madness.
