Considering that the areas affected are all dealing with horrible housing prices and shortage of affordable housing, I fully support blocking anyone (Korean or foreign) from speculatively buying real estate w/ no plans to live there. n.news.naver.com/mnews/articl...
Sure. But isn’t this only foreigners? That’s ridiculous!
There are new restrictions on owning multiple properties that (if I understand it) makes the taxes go up a lot if you own too many properties, which is part of what's going on with the rental market these days-- people are trying to sell their extra places, not rent them out.
Right, but I hate that they’re differentiating between Koreans and non Koreans (assuming “foreigner” means non citizen and probably non PR)
I don't like it, but on the other hand, I understand it. This country has always been big on protectionism, so this tracks
Oh to be clear I’m not surprised at all! I just don’t think it’s the right way to do it. Foreigners are not the issue with housing prices in Korea!!
My cynical side says they can do this and say they're doing something
That’s absolutely correct lol. Many countries blame the foreigners
wonder how much of that targets speculators in general, and how much specifically aimed at buyers from China
I would bet dollars to donuts that it is MEANT to target China, but...
