Let the calm-mongering begin. “Covid now is not what Covid was in 2020,” Dr. Behar said. “It’s sort of hard to get that into people’s psyches because everybody’s panicked about getting Covid.” Everybody who? 🤣

Military in the streets and lax covid treatments. Yeah, I'm on strike. Fuck this shit.
I got Covid last year. Worst f-ing headache for days. Do not want a repeat. Now that school is in session the surge will start.
Got my vaccine a couple of weeks ago. Let the anti vaxxers fall.
so panicked that they refuse to even acknowledge its continued existence. aka denial.
They say it's not that bad because they want to ensure the maximum amount of people die
The scientific dogma that lethality of a pathogen is limited to its acute onset should’ve died in the 80s (AIDS). The panic is with those who feel it’s unreasonable to avoid repeat infections. I use this rise in elite panic to predict surges in covid. It’s almost as accurate as waste water detection
The new variant is bad
Exactly. Everybody who?
The other day a woman on my riding team wrote in our messenger group that she had "a terrible cold", so wouldn't be riding that evening but only come by to say hi. I didn't even bother to say that DK is in a SARS-CoV-2 wave and the "cold" could be covid. Because the only one caring about that is me.
Did she end up coming by? What happened to staying home when you’re sick? I guess it went by the boards along with the soap.
I don't know, I hadn't planned on going anyway for other reasons. But as nobody said anything, I suppose she did. So I won't go tomorrow either, as she could still be infectious with SARS-CoV-2 and also it is of course probable she has infected the hole team with it.
Very wise. 🦉
But actually I find it weird that she - and probably everyone else than me on the team - find it A - okay that she comes by, even if it really only is a cold, and thereby exposes everyone to getting infected with it. Who wants to have a cold? Nobody, I presume.
But perhaps it's because people see having colds regularly as unavoidable anyway. Which us maskers of course now know is wrong: I myself haven't had a cold since 2019. Or they - just as wrongly- think handhygiene and keeping their distance can protect against transmission of a cold 🤷♀️
This proves my theory, that limiting access to anything makes it worth having. Privilege comes with a price, you can turn it down by choice. But when you can't have it, OMG you must have it!
So they go to concerts without wearing a mask.
And everything else. I must admit that I’m finding the pearl-clutching about vaccines from non-maskers a bit rich.
Ah you see but the vaccine was their get out of jail free card. It's the excuse that allows them to pretend covid is over. A lot of people bought into the idea the vaccines stop the spread completely / stop you from getting seriously ill in any way. I think many still believe this now.
Well, data from Israel were quite promising early after vaccination. But then Delta came and we saw waning of immunity. And probably the vaccine-only approach did not help either.
It’s exactly this. If they don’t get their shot, then they might actually have to think about covid and disabled people again, and we can’t have that!
That’s the really neat part, no one even gets the shot anymore. Most people only got that first round and been riding it ever since.
They are topping up their immunity with infections, so that they do not get Covid each time they enter a crowded room unmaksed.
I don't understand it either. The vaccines do little to prevent infection and are only partially effective against long Covid. I still take them, but that's because combined with a mask (reducing the viral load) they can help prevent infection, but I would not rely on just the vaccine.
Agree. I laid in a supply of N95s.
💯
Regular vaccination reduces the risk of infection, transmission, and Long Covid, so I'm glad they're concerned about it. I'd rather they demand one mitigation (even if imperfect) rather than none. 🤷♂️
I understand the resentment against those being unscientific about masking. My spouse & I are the only N95 wearers here. Pragmatically, though, if the goal is to reduce transmission, we achieve a greater reduction by getting 100 people to vax every 6 months rather than 10 new ppl (good luck) to mask
Is there any science behind the assertion that 100x vaccine twice yearly beats 10x respirators all the time when it comes to transmission?
