Humans are always trying to conquer nature instead of co-existing. When we don't understand something, the immediate idea is to exploit it for profit. OceanGate's tragedy was fueled by the arrogance of one man who wouldn't listen to those who knew more than him. Always grandiose delusions.

Deep Sea mining is just the latest instance of humans trying to exploit something we just discovered, with a line of reasoning that gets big money all hard. Our energy future is not in current technologies and materials. Cleaner, safer, scaleable alternatives for energy are plentiful.
