He just wanders into a who's who of HoF guitarists & blasts everybody's nips off w/ a solo featuring like 8 different styles...then does a trust fall onto like ONE guy (who somehow doesn't fuck it up)...then tosses his guitar into the crowd & continues on his way to the post office. 10/10 no notes.

Flawless summary. That is exactly what happened.

He tosses his guitar into the air and we never see it come down. Because when Prince tosses a guitar, that guitar *stays* tossed.

You're right. Our mind's eye completes the trajectory based on what we know of the world, rather than what we know of Prince. But what we know of Prince is that the world bent to him, not the other way around.

Dhani’s face through the whole solo is priceless. Clearly thrilled his dad gets a tribute like this.

That's one of my favorite things about the scene. I'd kind of expect the son of a Beatle to be fairly inoculated against being overwhelmed by a cool music thing, but nope, he is fully awestruck and just seems grateful to be on that stage, and I love him for it.

My understanding is that one guy is one of his stage folks, which, still, is a lot of trust.

Yeah, I kinda figured it was probably something like that. Like you said, still a wild thing to do. Then again, dude was practically levitating for the whole performance, so maybe there was no real risk of succumbing to gravity.

Btw I love that the mere mention of that clip brings people out of the woodwork who are also obsessed with it. My people!!!

One of the rare instances when the term "musical genius" is actually appropriate. He was a generational talent who also had the creativity to express himself in ways no one had seen and many weren't ready for. Easily top-5 "I wish I had seen them live" artists for me.
