He’s just not a guy who takes big swings, probably because he is (or was, I think he left NYU) a tenured professor who has a steady income and so doesn’t need to drive a media cycle to make some money.

It means that he has an ongoing critique of media trends as they develop and (so far as I can tell, I’m just a guy who reads his posts and sometimes his articles) doesn’t have some One Weird Trick That Explains Why Nana Is Redpilled or whatever
