Yeah I am, reflected in the other reply to your quote post, I apologise
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
Alright, I'm wrong on this one and apologise, I did not see that. I am gonna delete my original posts because this is categorically a mistake on my part, sorry for the bother/bite back.

What does "he doesn't take big swings" mean?
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
If he wanted to make that point he'd have actually made it, best case he's pulling his punches which is even worse. I think he thinks it's a good question and liked it!
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
No he didn't? What the hell are you on about
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
What? I didn't use the word sauce
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
Why is it whenever I ask for specifics about this guy I get told something vague
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
Not a single person seems capable of explaining what Jay has done in any recency. Am I meant to be impressed by this? "It's not the odds it's the stakes" is the perfect kind of obfuscatory and pretentious crap that media people love to quote and ignore, but readers get little out of
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com)
Is UNC bad, or Belichick? Or is it both
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
"Give me an example of why this guy should be taken seriously" is absolutely a fair question to ask! I can do it with any writer I like, it isn't hard at all
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
A media critic who can't see an endemic problem here - that American journalists will ask a question then ignore the answer and move on - and indeed ignores the poor quality of the answer so that they can applaud the vague question - is not impressive to me. Tell me what I'm missing
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
I respect you so I'm up for being wrong here, what am I missing? Can you give me any links? Somehow this guy knows about the "view from nowhere" but has missed decades of American journalists doing this same thing again and again - question to question amnesia. Why should I take him seriously?
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
I am not reading into a single skeet, I have read his work since 2008. It has a very intellectual way of not saying much. He's made some good points, but seems incapable of making many of them that mattered in the last few years, and honestly I can't even remember the good ones!
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
Is it immeasurable because you don't seem to be able to explain it? I appreciate that he did work around then, sure. What recently? What have I missed? Utterly offensive to suggest I, of all people, "haven't been paying attention to the web." How's your track record?
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent

fucked up what? their business only loses money
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
oh it's standard accounting practices, it's just the kind of thing that ends poorly if/when CRWV's stock drops in the next few months
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
They are booking it as revenue using mark-to-market accounting, which means if it drops in value it will lose them money next quarter. Yay!!!! YAY!! IT'S ALL SO GOOD! sherwood.news/markets/nvidia-the-asset-manager-had-a-massive-q2-thanks-to-coreweaves-rally/
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
it appears that NVIDIA used mark-to-market accounting to say that the gain in their stock value in CoreWeave created $2.2 billion in revenue. No stock was sold. This is just from holding the asset. If CRWV's value drops between now and next quarter they'll have to show a loss for it. VERY GOOD.
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
yes! i know! I KNOW!!!
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
that's the thing, i don't know if it was, and even if it was...$2bn of your revenue was the gain on a stock investment? on earnings you barely hit?
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com)
Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME? NVIDIA barely beat earnings estimates, and it seems part of the reason they beat them was the value of their god damn CoreWeave shares?
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) reply parent
I have some empathy here. For the most part people don't interact with technology as much and have lives where they basically believe things because everybody does. AI is the most egregious example of people's ability to believe in myth generated by capitalism

They didn't miss on revenue. Just data center revenue, which is 88% of it
Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com)
Is it good at NVIDIA missed data center revenue estimates two quarters running? They were estimated at $41.3bn and hit $41.09bn, were estimated at $39.3bn last quarter and hit $39.1bn. Nobody wanted to talk about this last quarter, wonder if they'll pretend again this one
