Why? It's far from perfect but it's better than nothing at this point, if me having to verify my id helps prevent my kids accessing porn I'm ok with it. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. I have no intention of crashing my motorcycle but I don't consider a helmet a restriction of my freedom. 🤷

You can monitor and set up parental controls if you want to prevent your children from accessing porn. It's not just about this being an imperfect solution, even if it is well intentioned, it lays the infrastructure for a surveillance state, and the complete destruction of privacy.

The solution is right there. Educate parents on how to correctly limit websites through the tools that internet providers give them. You can block websites for specific devices and users using your Router. Education is key. What they have chosen to do is invasive and wrong.

Because all kids are safe in nice middle class families with parents looking out for them.... That's just not a solution, it simply makes vulnerable kids easier targets

Lower class families can be educated as long as the government pay for the proper resources. Look at the education for eating unhealthy food or education for smoking. Okay, it hasn't entirely fixed the issue, but it has massively helped.

It would be nice if parents were smart and wanted to learn enough about technology to handle the responsibilities of being parents. But never underestimate the lure of expeditious overreach by politicians hoping to promise a quick fix that is not technically feasible, because people are LAZY

Then you bring out tools that can make it easier for parents. The government shouldn't be deciding what websites are blocked and what aren't.
