Yes, toasted. Just a couple of strips laid across a slice so you get a bit in every mouthful. Def open the wine if you have.

I enjoyed that! May have a second. My youngest said anchovies on toast is a 'thing' on tiktok. But with onions on top.

Oh you have vinegared anchovies (boquerones) I think? Mine are the salted, dark ones. I get these ones, but Tesco/Sainos sell cantabrian ones too.

M&S cantabrian anchovies. J’adore.

How can you tell? The colour? I didn't know there were different kinds. I think it was the dark ones I saw on a pizza once and I was a bit 👀But I'll get yours next time.

I’d have been fooled by that packaging too, it does say vinegar but I could easily have assumed they were salted. And it may be that you like those ones better. But I’m team salt all the way.

Oh I’ve just realised that’s a clear packet! Then yes, the silvery colour is the giveaway. And the salted are mostly in tins/jars. Except for Brindisa who have to be extra 🤣

How do they come? Farah bought James some fancy Ortiz anchovies for Xmas. In a jar. I will get your M&S ones. That's the benchmark now.

Yes, Ortiz is what I meant, not Brindisa! They sell the really fat ones in flat packets, like ham. Delicious but not much change out of a tenner. M&S ones are about £2.50. And still excellent.

The world of anchovies is complicated! And I appreciate your experiences. Know your anchovies could be the first piece for your column. Just saying....
