I've seen people call out "is is" all the time, which is sometimes wrong, but often not.

Yeah. "What he is is a liar" is grammatical. But "The thing is, is he's a liar" is not, though quite common. (I think Obama was a power-user.)

Exactly right! I've seen video montages where people have tried to collect examples, and only half of them were incorrect.
