I was a kid when Reagan was president - I was aware of the AIDS epidemic, but growing up super rural, I knew nothing about the LGBTQ community. I think I was 12 when I saw that movie, and it blew my mind. My first book report was on Ryan White, and the failure of his administration.
I remember when a burglar in my city came across 2 women asleep in the same bed and killed them. We have come a loving way.

Reading “And the Band Played On” changed my entire political perspective when I was a young adult. I should watch the movie.
