Alien was pretty good but it's hard to separate the thing from the expectations when watching something this known. Sigourney Weaver sold the hell out of it, not hard to see how that launched her career

I know what you mean, and I KNOW I was fighting to keep my expectations reasonable, but... I felt the same way the first time I saw The Thing, but to their credit, both movies have gotten better on every rewatch.
