In the 70s my family vacationed in the South. There were Confederate flags EVERYWHERE, on trucks, shirts, signs. At a Civil War battlefield I said to the clerk, a sweet old lady, that from the ongoing interest you'd never know the South lost. She furiously hissed, "The South DIDN'T lose the war!"

True that. But I'm horrified that 50 years after she said that and about 150 years since the Civil War ended, roughly a third of Americans still believe in the South's core values and are still fighting to take America back to slavery, oppression, and permanent white minority rule...
