I love so many things about that movie but … holy unforced error, Batman
It wasn't unforced, it felt very deliberate.
I felt that it emerged from Gunn wanting to play up Superman’s vulnerable human-ness in contrast to Snyder’s sensibility, so he locked off him turning to his Kryptonian roots without really thinking about Superman as a second-generation immigrant story.
But I AM uneasy with it rhyming with the racist, authoritarian Krypton which Snyder offered us.
I think it's also because Gunn just loves that "family of choice trumps blood ties" theme. It was all over the GotG movies too.
I would say it must make John Byrne happy but since I don't think he got a cut, probably not.
