I think how someone conforms can communicate just as much as not conforming. For example, it is fairly common in the western US to wear bolos, instead of neckties, with suits. Both are conforming, but which one someone chooses can tell you something about them.

Yeah, regional cultures and subcultures can be conveyed that way without bucking fashion too badly. But I'm a pirate Goth trans woman with facial hair & a voice in the bass register. As Dr. King said, "Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted."

Also a cane & wheelchair user on oxygen. I really need to step up my decorating game now that I'm using the latter two more. I have a VERY nice hand carved madrona cane that doubles as a warhammer (seriously). I used to work Renfaire.

When I was using a walker, I always wanted to wrap it in that handle tape they make for tennis rackets, but I could never find the energy.
