Funny the Mongols never invaded Europe proper but since they brought the Black Death you can credit them for killing 1/3rd of the population without even trying. The rough terrain and stone castles woulda totally stopped the Mongol Hoard if Ogedai hadn't drank himself to death tho. Not cope at all.
The one thing that would've saved them was central and western Europe not having anywhere near enough pasture for their herds.
one of the big tenets of early russian slavophile/protonationalist movement was the idea that this invasion didn't happen because mongols were too busy in the Russian lands (partly true)
