I can't disagree, but I'd add American conceit to that list as well. We've been taught about "American Exceptionalism" for decades, but somehow, it was never conveyed that it was a collective exceptionalism, not individual. So now, most Americans think they are exceptional by birth.

I think you are working under a misapprehension. I am not suggesting MAGA or the right wing makes up a majority of Americans. I am suggesting that the conceit of exceptionalism that is prevalent makes it easy for movements like MAGA to gain power, even though they aren't a majority.

The conceit of exceptionalism is certainly less prevalent now than it was 10 years ago, thanks in no small part to the humiliation a lot of Americans feel at having Trump and his movement destroying America's reputation, human rights, and technological advantages.
