I had cocaine once upon a time and honestly while I had more energy during that era I can confirm that it did not actually improve my life OR my decision-making I mean, at the time it sure seemed like it did, but 😭

I heard that cocaine works very differently for ADHD people, how was your experience?
Honestly pretty great, except it completely shattered my already-poor impulse control 😂 Confirmed that I didn't get the life-altering "high" that so many people talk about, I just didn't feel like total crap for one of very few times in my life
oh this is so interesting! one ex who did it said she/they didn't feel that affected by it but this makes sense, like we get dopamine all in a surge and lots of energy, but also the reduced impulse control
Ya I have heard it has helped some people who didn’t know they had ADHD get diagnosed because of instead of getting high.. they acted normal 😅 Which means what would really fix me is if I were rich
I should also point out that I have MULTIPLE chronic mental and physical health conditions, so I should not be used as a "typical" ADHD person in this particular instance 😅 Energy drinks, however, will immediately put me to sleep. I can chug a Monster and take a two-hour nap right after.
Yah that’s not too abnormal for us actually! One of the going beliefs is that it’s because the stimulants help us focus, which means our brains can like, focus on falling asleep
Makes sense. I did a heroic amount of drugs during That Part of my life, and never once did my experience with them come close to what "normal" people reported 😭 if not for my addiction issues I probably would have given them up straight away for not being worth it
Yahhhh I have sadly accepted much the same that the most they do is help us “even out,” so to speak That said, semi legal magic mushrooms have actually been very helpful to me in processing trauma? We shall see what the end result of micro doses ends up as
YES
I'm interested in trying them myself -- they were decrim'd here at the beginning of the year but they haven't been fully legalized yet so I can't get them at the dispensaries (although there's plenty of snake oil out there as a result of the hype). I also want to try ketamine therapy 🥹
Try ordering through Alfred’s Top Shelf. I saw a documentary a few weeks ago that talked about how it’s not really regulated enough to trust a dispensary =\ some will use a fabricated substance that doesn’t have the right effects
I hear this, me too!
Is it unsupportive to your sobriety to ask more questions? I think it's awesome that you've gotten past bad things!
I'm 10 years into it as of August 28th, so I'm at a stable enough point in my recovery that I can do so. Thank you for asking first though because definitely not everyone is as far along/as comfortable as I am!
If it's ok to ask I'd love to know more about the way your experiences with different things have been different compared to what other people experience. Have things been more muted, no visuals, things like that?
Mostly I just don't get the extreme euphoria/high that everyone else describes. Not just with stimulants either -- Xanax literally just knocks me out 😂 I don't get the "fun" part. Weed, though, I seem to get a pretty normal response from -- but that's about the only one.
i love drinking my large pumpkin spice cold brew and immediately going back to sleep
I remember when I first tried Ritalin I had a nice nap a few hours later
