All the talent in the world can't hold up against the whims of the Kiln Gods 😆 If it seems to be a recurring issue, you need to make a new idol, that solved it when I was in college 😂

We had what was supposed to be pretty stable and consistent class glazes do all sorts of wild things for a while and the professors just couldn't figure out why. Didn't matter which kiln, never the same thing twice, just problems all around. So every student had to make a kiln god, and it worked!

Best practice is to make a new idol for any new thing going on, not just the first firing of a new kiln. Trying a new clay body, different glaze, wildly chaotic forms? Just make a kiln god to be safe.
