Add wax resist to the clay around the join! It will help the handle area specifically dry slower and more evenly, then burns off in the bisque.

I know a lot of potters consider it a hail Mary, desperate "at least you tried" but I mean this sincerely as a compliment, it would be a LOVELY planter! The proportion is actually great for a houseplant and something with dark, variegated leaves would be stunning in an atmospheric firing.
And purple is usually SUPER hard to preserve naturally. I suspect that by the time they're dried and then ground up as well the purple will look brown, which is why you've never seen it in a store. Should be just as tasty though! I actually have a couple varieties of purple peppers 😁
I'm curious to try! I use a dehydrator, have not tried peppers yet but even low temp does tend to discolor at least a little bit unless they're dressed in some way to prevent oxidation, like rubbing a lemon on apple slices or putting lime in guacamole.
I'm attempting to grow purple peppers to see if I can make purple paprika, and I suspect it will have similar results 🤣
Best practice is to make a new idol for any new thing going on, not just the first firing of a new kiln. Trying a new clay body, different glaze, wildly chaotic forms? Just make a kiln god to be safe.
We had what was supposed to be pretty stable and consistent class glazes do all sorts of wild things for a while and the professors just couldn't figure out why. Didn't matter which kiln, never the same thing twice, just problems all around. So every student had to make a kiln god, and it worked!
All the talent in the world can't hold up against the whims of the Kiln Gods 😆 If it seems to be a recurring issue, you need to make a new idol, that solved it when I was in college 😂
