Are you able to say which contemporary variant has the closest spike to GA-1? (Guesses are fine too)

There is nothing contemporary that is really even in the same ballpark.

How does this look compared to, say, the early days of BA.2.86? (As in, how does this GA genome compare to saltations we’ve seen in omicron offshoots?) Thank you very much in advance — I really appreciate all the work you do btw!

To be clear, the Atlanta variant is not in circulation and is almost certainly a single persistent infection that is not spreading. However, to answer your question, the lineage is about 2-times more divergent than Omicron was, or 4 times more divergent than BA.2.86 was.
