The Fourth Circuit's opinion in McKissick details the disparate treatment of the NCCU School of Law compared to its whites-only counterpart at UNC Chapel Hill Fewer faculty, less experienced. Fewer courses. The Law Library furnished with outdated books handed down from the whites-only school.
The end result was that the State of North Carolina was required to admit black students to its whites-only law school, years before SCOTUS's Brown v Board of Education ruling
Over the decades since, Legislature-decreed disparities continued to exist, but things improved in fits and starts into the 2000s, when per-student funding was equalized through the work of alumni-legislators like Mickey Michaux
But the thing to keep in mind – the thing that can't really be avoided, since it's the entire reason the law school exists – is that NCCU School of Law is a historically black institution
That served the law school well in getting private funding from companies like Intel, whose workforces are overwhelmingly white But the thought of racial minorities getting an education makes MAGAland very angry
So soon after Trump took over, the US Department of Education decreed that NCCU was required to remove all references from its website indicating it was an HBCU or had a legacy of serving students of all races You won't find anything now, except via pics of the students+alumni: law.nccu.edu
