It pre-dates swatting "The term derives from the slang "dropping dox" ... an old-school revenge tactic that emerged from hacker culture in 1990s. Hackers operating outside the law in that era used the breach of an opponent's anonymity as a means to expose them to harassment or legal repercussions"

It's from the wiki article I linked earlier, which is pulling from this Wired article from 2014. www.wired.com/2014/03/doxi... I'd never be caught dead using AI, I think we can agree there that it fucking blows.

Good. I started following the hacker community as a kid about 91’-92’, but was reading lot of textfiles from the 80’s then too, so if the wiki particle is correct, I’m wondering just why I haven’t seen anything to that extent. Maybe their OPSEC was gold, whoever it came from.
