Dot is lovely in both images. I was a camp counselor a good 45 years ago; there were identical Caucasian twin teen campers. One had it the other did not. Her nickname was "Patches." I mention her being Caucasian because it is more noticeable on those with darker pigments.
Michael Jackson had it, as well. Hence the major change in his appearance (well, of his skin).

It won’t change anything. What it can do is perhaps make the difference a little less apparent, by preventing the non-affected skin from tanning.
hey just clarifying. dr recommends higher spf, and blocking like wearing hats etc for people with vitiligo. so indeed, higher spf will do something to protect against cancer. just wanted to clarify so no one is misled by this comment.

And no, SPF does NOT refer only to UVA. But of course, if you bother to take 30 seconds to look at the label, you can READ of a particular sunscreen blocks both or only one. This is not rocket science. It’s basic and very long-standing knowledge.

Since skin with vitiligo can burn more easily, it’s recommended for humans. Although fur usually does a good job of that. But It won’t change anything. Her skin will lose pigmentation and this, because fur takes on the color of the skin underneath it, her fur will still lose pigmentation as well.
I read an article years ago that recommended sunscreen for any white dog or cat, for their nose and inside of the ears. Basically said to keep them out of the sun.
That’s probably true for all dogs. It certainly won’t hurt. That skin is exposed. But it won’t stop vitiligo from progressing, and I was talking about where they have white fur.
My husband and his mom have vitiligo. She may be more likely to develop skin cancer, so sun protection is important. 💜
Friends horse had something similar. Got a lot of sunburn Died of cancer unfortunately.
