It took Lola 9 months, but now she is the best watchdog in our building. We call her warnings “the murder bark.” 😂 (Grateful for our understanding and rescue-loving neighbors. )
I'm perfectly comfortable not believing in a heaven after this life. But it's very problematic not to believe in a hell - at least for those who abuse animals.

I rescued this little girl yrs ago from a guy on his way to the pound with her. She was 2 yrs old. She was 16 yrs old when she passed. In all those years, she never made a sound. She was the best Baby Girl. 😢

Adopted Millie at 13 after she was rescued. Took 2 years before she barked.
You can tell by looking that Millie is a very very special dog. I feel like there should be an animated special about her. The more I look at her, the more she deserves to be immortalized as a cartoon.
A friend made this drawing of her. It was triple her actual size. When I got her, she had been recovering for 2 months and was still a mess. Completely shut down. We expected her to live a few months. Died at 17 after becoming a happy dog.
This is Coco Chanel, the geriatric obese toothless incontinent mini dauchs we adopted. She was the sassiest little old lady. Those little feisty girls that have been through so much are very special.
I still miss Millie even though it took me two years to pay off my maxxed out credit card.

OMG we have a little fella who we also suspect was punished for barking! He was a breeder dog, kept in terrible conditions. He was sent here to Canada from Missouri with other rescue dogs & we fostered him (now adopted). After 3 months he let out his first bark & we CRIED haha 🥲❤️

My beagle Skip was rescued from a testing facility. It took him 3 years to find his voice. He is still quiet for a beagle but it’s always a celebration when we hear him howl.
My sister calls me a Helicopter cuz I hover around my mom as her caregiver. I would definitely be a helicopter with Bruce, with lots of hugs!

we had a pupper like that growing up. found by the side of the road by our vet and he strongly suspected he was abused. he only ever barked once and we were so proud of him. but he was the bestest most loving dog. anyone that abused animals has a special place waiting for them in the underworld

Honestly, I have no idea. Never had one before, but he came across like a dog that had been abused in the kennels and when he came to us.
I had one! Border collie / greyhound mix. They’re smart, high energy, and explode when they’re excited so they do get into trouble with people who can’t keep up with a gotta-go-fast dog that’s smarter than they are. Same with other herding dogs and the maligators. They need the right people!
I love love love having a dog that’s smarter than I am and needs to be kept busy, but a whole lot of these babies end up abused or in shelters because people don’t know what they’re in for. :(
Historically bred by poachers in the UK to be silent hunters, and companions. Not a “breed” per se, but a mix of sight hounds. I’m sorry yours was abused before you got him.
He had a rough old time straying until he was hit by a car, then was in a rescue place for months. He’s been with us over 3 years now and is the gentlest cuddler.
