I think you're confusing progressives with liberals. People on the progressive side want tangible policies first. Liberals are happy with fluff, symbolic victories, and savior candidates, all so they can "have brunch" and not have to think about politics for another few years.

Progressives have been winning more seats than centrist and conservatives since 2010 at earliest, culminating in AOC - Omar - Squad wins later. There's still an issue of getting progressive voters to get involved in primaries but it's happening more and more.
