This show is very stressful, I gotta say. As a fluent Italian-speaker, and a native English speaker, the interrogation scenes where the cops misinterpret what's being said or mistranslate questions or statements was disturbing to say the least.
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
Actually, this new series was made in consultation with Knox and with her blessing, unlike some other adaptations. It includes some fictional elements (merging of people into single characters for the sake of flow for TV) but it seems very faithful to what really happened to her.

Living a moral life in an age of bullies requires collective action; it cannot be done alone. Each of us must organize and participate in a vast network of moral resistance. From this solidarity we will grow stronger. This is what our current moment requires.

True. But that's why conservative leadership is so obsessed with pushing culture war crap. These people are RICH-rich, and if they can prevent bonds of solidarity from forming between poor people, that's a win. And that's what's been happening since at least the 70s.

So, if you were serving on a Federation starship, what colour uniform / department would you be serving in?
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
But progressives? It's an immediate concern 'cause people are losing their lives. LGBTQ kids are facing conversion therapy threats. Sex workers are facing finance discrimination. Poor people are going bankrupt from medical bills. Money is going to genocides. Election after election: nothing changes.
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
Conservatives especially can afford to make a 50-year plan for christo-fascism because their immediate material circumstances aren't dependent on the outcome of any one election: they're largely fine, no matter who wins. Liberal centrists are mostly ok because "the arc of history leans left".
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
I've thought about this a lot: why progressives want bold action immediately, while liberals and conservatives seem more willing to play the long game. I've come to the conclusion it's because libs/cons are mainstream and likely have more stable finances and unthreatened civil rights.
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you're confusing progressives with liberals. People on the progressive side want tangible policies first. Liberals are happy with fluff, symbolic victories, and savior candidates, all so they can "have brunch" and not have to think about politics for another few years.
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
See, that's something I didn't understand back in the 00s: so many of the bigoted atheists were just Zionists pushing Zionist anti-Muslim talking points.
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
Just take a look at their position here: "Zohran Mamdani is bad because he's Muslim." They're not opposing a policy position of his, they're just opposing him for his religion. And this, on a post where Mamdani doesn't even talk about his religion. They're just a bigot. Leave them alone.
Alessandro (@bigdungeonenergy1.bsky.social) reply parent
Sister, let it go, they're not worth your time. I've been dealing with these moralistic atheists since the late 00s, back when I thought the atheist community could be a force for good. But too many are bigots who claim their own intolerance is justified, while religious intolerance isn't.
