Rolling with hope or fear is the main one. I'd rather play out logical consequences to a success or failure than have the dice tell me what kind of consequences they'll be.

I mean, aren't the dice already telling you the consequence in a pass / fail situation? The way I see it, Hope and Fear just add degrees of success or failure, which I've always found interesting.
