I really liked the fall out/interpersonal dynamics it creates where Batman was furious (and had through through the repercussions of the mind wipe) Clearly, it didn't work for everyone but it had me buying DC comics that I wasn't buying before.

The shift to make Ray Palmer NOT the culprit made no sense since he wouldn’t have had to do anything to get Jean back. That and didn’t like what happened to Sue and how the writer seemed to enjoy writing those parts as graphically as he could. I refuse to read anything of his.

Some positives are the scene where Ollie explains to Wally that they wear the masks to protect their families from the horrible people that would target them to get back at the heroes. That and when Captain Cold talked about never making it personal, this is a job, don’t target families.

There's good parts to it but the very obvious misogyny and reveling in misery porn put me off buying DC for a good while.

Yeah, it soured me on a lot. I’d focus on works by particular pros whenever I’d buy something from DC. Even that is very little, nowadays.

These days they're a lot better than Marvel at that stuff but it only happened after Didio left. Thankfully NEITHER company now resorts to sexual assault as their default drama beat for female character, something Identity Crisis normalized for DC.

I'm gonna have to reread this with different eyes and ponder it a bit more. Totally appreciate what you are saying.

Holy Moly, It’s STACYHD! @stacyhd.bsky.social

Seconded. 2004 was the nadir of DC Comics.

Interesting. Whereas I've really enjoyed that writer, both his comics and his novels. His Green Arrow arc is one of my all time favorite comic stories. I clearly didn't feel what you felt with I.C., but now that you've said that, I can see why that would put you off him.

To each their own. Maybe his other work is good, but how he wrote those scenes and doubled down against any criticism of it has me vote with my wallet and won’t waste money or time supporting his work. But that’s me.
